Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I choose UCAS?
A: The greatest benefit of attending UCAS is the opportunity to graduate high school with many credits and possibly an associate's degree from UVU.  Also, we have a small student count (around 360) which allows the teachers to get to know the students, and the students to get to know each other.

Q: What are the fees for UCAS?
A: There is a mandatory $35 admission fee to UVU for college credit earned by the students. There are textbook fees and lab fees depending on the student's classes, usually between $150 and $200. UCAS uses the textbook fee to help pay for the high school and college textbooks that we purchase for the students.

Q: What transportation is available?
A: Students who enroll at UCAS will be given a UTA bus pass for the school year. There are several routes to UCAS, please check with rideuta.com for a route near your home.

Q: How can I eat lunch?
A: A hot school lunch is provided every day from Timpview High. You may also bring a lunch from home. We have a fridge and microwave that you can use in the Activity Center. We also have some vending machines available. UVU has a food court available just across the street on campus.  We do offer Utah State's free and reduced lunch program for all who qualify.

Q. Do you require uniforms?
A. No, but we do have a dress policy including no tank tops, short shorts, or hats.  Please see our dress policy found here.

Q: Do I need a parking permit?
A: Students may purchase a parking permit at Parking Services on UVU campus. There
are also passes available at the LDS seminary for those who enrolled in their program.  Parking Services (801) 863-8188.

Q: Do you have LDS Seminary available?
A: Yes. The LDS Church Education System has provided two teachers for UCAS students. Classrooms for seminary are located in the LDS church approx. half a block east of UCAS. Classes are available nearly every hour.

Q: What time does your school day run? Why?
A: We will start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. each day. We chose this time in order to accommodate students who have to travel. This schedule also allows students who would like to be in an early morning class such as Journalism or seminary.

Q: Can I take a foreign language besides Spanish? What about other classes that are not in a major field of study?
A: The only foreign language class that UCAS will offer is Spanish. If a student wishes to take another foreign language class or a class that is outside their field of study, the student may have to pay regular UVU fees for that class. We ask that students talk to their counselor about these classes.

Q: Where will I take driver's education?
A: You will need to take driver's education on-line or at your neighborhood high school. Most high schools offer driver's education before and after school.  You may also take the class part of driver's ed through the electronic high school and the road section at your neighborhood high school.

Q: Do you offer P.E. at UCAS?
A: We do have one P.E. teacher here at UCAS.  Some of our students take their P.E. classes at UVU.

Q: Will you accept students on a first come first serve basis?
A: No, if we have more students apply than we agree to accept, we are required by law to hold a lottery.  UCAS generally accepts between 120 and 140 Sophomores and 10 to 15 Juniors each Fall. Please see our admissions policy found here.

Q: Will I be able to attend my neighborhood high school and UCAS at the same time?
A: No. UCAS requires students to be full-time students at UCAS. If you have questions about special sports, music, or dance classes, please see your counselor.

Q: What school activities will you have?
A: We have a student government that plans school activities similar to those in your neighborhood high school.  We hold dances, lunch activities, barbeques, and many other activities for the students. Clubs are created by the students, and anyone may participate.

Q: What other elective courses do you have at UCAS?
A: We have office/counseling aides, yearbook, school newspaper, and student government as well as Spanish I and II, public speaking, web design, introductory art, art history, robotics, and humanities.

Q: Do all UCAS students receive the UVU Associate Degree at UCAS?
A: No. While one of the goals of UCAS is to have all Seniors earn an Associate Degree, the realization of that goal depends on the individual student's academic preparation, schedules, attendance, and choices.
